Democrats fill every state legislative race, first time for any party in 30 years
Southwest Strategies supports qualification of 12 candidates in coalition of statewide and national actors
Fort Myers, FL – In 2024, every state legislative race in Florida has a Democrat running. This is the first time in thirty years any party in Florida has accomplished this feat. Fort Myers-based political consulting firm, Southwest Strategies, Inc., played a key role in recruiting, launching and qualifying 12 candidates across the state.
“I’m very proud to be part of this historic moment,” said Southwest Strategies Founder, Dr. Cindy Banyai. “We were able to get all our candidate’s qualified and pitch-in to fix paperwork for other Democrats running around the state, so no one was left behind.”
Southwest Strategies, Inc. worked with the Florida Democratic Party, the Democratic Environmental Caucus, 90 for 90, 140 Florida Blue PAC, and Save Our Water PAC to fill the ranks and qualify Florida Democrats in every legislative race. Southwest Strategies is running 9 of their own legislative candidates, mostly based in Southwest Florida, in addition to helping make sure all Democrats qualified.
“Emails and text messages were flying to troubleshoot for candidates. We were laser-focused on making sure we had a Democrat qualified in every race.” Dr. Banyai continues. “It’s our mission to support Democrats running even in the most challenging districts. The future of the state and our children’s future relies on it.”
Dr. Banyai was involved with a similar effort in 2020 that was spearheaded by then Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida President Dr. Janelle Christensen. Dr. Christensen recruited and fundraised for a nearly full slate of candidates in 2020, while Dr. Banyai’s team provided campaign support and built candidate coalitions.
